Côte D'Or - Force of Character

Conform • Color Grading • Compositing • Tracking • Rotoscoping • 3D VFX

Description

In this Côte d'Or commercial, sensory experience becomes powerful visual metaphor. An actress in her dressing room tastes a chocolate square. The moment shifts: her gaze transforms into desert, a herd of elephants crosses dust, the ground cracks revealing an incandescent chocolate river. Taste strength becomes telluric force.

Joining the post-production team as a freelancer, I worked primarily on Flame to ensure 3D compositing, clean-up, tracking, and project conform. My role consisted of integrating complex simulations (elephants, cracks, melting chocolate) into live footage while ensuring organic transitions between universes.

Certain passages required VFX compositing and retiming work, notably the progressive floor crack opening leading to the chocolate river. The objective was amplifying dramatic impact while maintaining credible and fluid on-screen movement. I also participated in color adjustments and several final renders to preserve density and warmth specific to the brand.

Challenges & Solutions

3D Simulation Integration

Elephants, ground fractures, and chocolate matter relied on complex simulations needing natural interaction with filmed sets.

Through tracking and 3D compositing on Flame, I adjusted shadows, particles, and atmospheric depth to anchor digital elements in shot reality.

Crack Opening & Retiming

The sequence where ground fractures to reveal chocolate river needed finding right balance between visual power and physical credibility.

Precise retiming and VFX compositing work redesigned opening dynamics, accentuated tension before fall, and fluidified transition toward chocolate flow.

Premium Finishing & Global Cohesion

Effect accumulation could unbalance the image or harm story readability.

Conform, color grading adjustments, and renders harmonized the whole to achieve dense, immersive, and controlled rendering.
