La Bohème 2050
Compositing • Color Grading • 2D VFX • Motion Design
Description
Futuristic transposition of Puccini's work, La Bohème 2050 imagines a world struck by extreme heatwave. To survive these difficult conditions, artists have taken residence in the Versailles Palace basements. The film blends opera, science fiction, and ecological manifesto in deliberately hybrid aesthetics.
As sole VFX artist on this project, I ensured all post-production interventions on After Effects. My work consisted of visually anchoring the narrative in 2050 while preserving the locations' historical and aesthetic consistency.
I notably removed anachronistic elements (switches and other contemporary visual details), added bluish reflections in Mimi's eyes to subtly reveal her artificial intelligence nature, and designed all typographies and title cards structuring the film's acts.

Challenges & Solutions
Futuristic Immersion in Historic Location
Shooting in a real heritage setting contained elements incompatible with the film's universe.
Meticulous clean-up and 2D compositing work was necessary to erase visual inconsistencies and thus preserve immersion and narrative credibility.
Subtle AI Visualization
Revealing Mimi's artificial character needed to be perceptible without falling into spectacular effect.
Discreet addition of blue reflections in her eyes, integrated via precise tracking and compositing, suggests her technological dimension while remaining organic and narrative.
Graphic Structure & Visual Identity
The film required clear articulation between acts, narrative interventions, and lyrical passages.
I designed and integrated all typographies, title cards, and texts in the film, ensuring strong graphic coherence, continuity between contemporary narration and opera.
